Some fantastic news: GNAW Chocolate has successfully completed a full 4-pillar SEDEX audit, demonstrating ongoing commitment to ethical, sustainable, and responsible business practices across every part of the chocolate-making journey.

What is a SEDEX 4-Pillar Audit?

Sedex is short for 'Supplier Ethical Data Exchange', and is a globally recognised online platform that helps businesses share data and manage responsible sourcing and ethical practices throughout the entire business from labour standards to environmental impact.

A SEDEX 4-Pillar Audit, also known as a SMETA 4-Pillar Audit, is one of the most comprehensive ethical audit formats available globally. The in-person on-site audit assesses a company’s performance across four key areas, or pillars, of responsible business practice:

  1. Labour Standards – Fair treatment, safe working conditions, and respect for workers’ rights in line with local and international standards.

  2. Health & Safety – Creating and maintaining a safe, healthy workplace for every employee and their specific needs to do their job.

  3. Environment – Reducing environmental footprint by managing resources responsibly, minimising waste, and protecting our planet.

  4. Business Ethics – Transparency, honesty and integrity throughout all business relationships, practices and decisions.

Why the SMETA Audit Matters to Us

At GNAW we do our thing and do it right. Great tasting chocolate should make people and the planet feel good. Achieving SEDEX 4-Pillar accreditation is a powerful way to:

  • Demonstrate accountability to customers, partners, and employees.

  • Ensure transparency throughout the supply chain.

  • Drive continuous improvement in sustainability and ethical sourcing.

This recognition reinforces the fact that we're not just crafting delicious chocolate, but doing it the right way from top to bottom.

Looking To The Future

This SEDEX 4-Pillar accreditation isn't the end of the journey... it's another step forward in making ethical chocolate that's as kind to people and the planet as it is to your taste buds.

GNAW will continue to build on this achievement, investing in better practices, greener packaging, and fairer partnerships throughout the supply chain.

A Heartfelt Thank You

A heartfelt thank you to the dedicated GNAW team, from suppliers and customers who support this commitment to ethical chocolate to the employees that work in every area of GNAW - you're all what makes this chocolate that tastes great and does good.
